Client: Marshalls
Contractor: Lindrick Construction
Project Location: Ranskill, Nottinghamshire
Completion Date: 2026
Project Overview
Lindrick Construction was commissioned by Marshalls to design, manufacture, and install a new storage canopy to support bulk in-loading operations at the company’s Ranskill site. The project formed part of Marshalls’ continued investment in improving operational efficiency, material protection, and safe working conditions within the loading area.
Delivering a full turnkey solution, Lindrick Construction managed structural design, fabrication of steelwork, protective finishing, and on-site installation to provide a durable, purpose-built canopy structure suited to a demanding industrial environment.
Design and Engineering
Working in collaboration with Marshalls’ site and engineering teams, the canopy structure was designed to accommodate vehicle movements, bulk material handling, and long-term exposure to weather conditions while maintaining structural efficiency and safe clearances.
Key design parameters included:
- Overall canopy footprint of 25 metres × 11 metres
- Structural height of 12 metres to the front, grading down to 6 metres at the rear to suit operational requirements and drainage
- Robust steel frame designed for durability and wind loading performance
- Open access to allow efficient bulk in-loading and plant manoeuvrability
- Compliance with relevant UK structural and safety standards
Detailed fabrication drawings and connection details were developed to ensure efficient manufacture and safe on-site assembly.
Manufacture and Protective Finish
Lindrick Construction fabricated approximately 11 tonnes of structural steelwork for the canopy under controlled workshop conditions to ensure dimensional accuracy, weld integrity, and long-term performance.
To provide durable corrosion protection suitable for an external industrial environment, all canopy steelwork was hot-dip galvanised prior to delivery to site.
Quality assurance inspections were completed throughout fabrication and finishing to verify compliance with specification and project requirements.
Installation
Installation works were carefully planned to integrate with Marshalls’ live site operations while maintaining strict safety controls and programme efficiency.
Key activities included:
- Sequenced delivery of fabricated steel components
- Safe lifting and erection of the primary steel frame
- Installation of secondary members and canopy structure
- Final alignment, inspection, and handover to the client
The canopy was installed safely, on programme, and to Marshalls’ satisfaction, providing immediate operational benefit to the site.
